Obituary of John J. Weaver

KENT - John J. Weaver, 69, died June 16, 2017

Today you are reading that I, John J. Weaver of Kent, Ohio, have died, but don’t believe it!  I am more alive now than ever! (Paraphrased quote by D.L. Moody)   Yes, in an earthly sense, I have gone from life to death but, in reality, I have passed through death into life for all eternity with the Lord in heaven!

John was born in 1948 in Cleveland to Carl and Virginia Weaver, deceased. As a young man, he served his country as an engineer in the Navy in the Vietnam War … with extensive asbestos exposure which later caused his lung cancer. John married Janet (Ebersole) in 1973, living in Kent most of their married lives. He leaves his two adult children Laura (Brian) Chadima, Jonathan (Sonia) Weaver, and grandchildren, Addison Marie and Bailey Grace Chadima. He also leaves an older brother, Jim (Kathy) and many special nieces and nephews.

John was a real estate appraiser in the Portage and Summit County areas for 25+ years before retiring to things of greater enjoyment. He enjoyed reading a variety of authors and topics, remaining a life-long learner. Additionally, John had many interests in the world of creativity and art, but he considered that God had particularly blessed him with loving relationships with his wife of forty-three years, his children, and his precious grandchildren, Addison and Bailey, who will miss their “Papa” dearly. In more recent years, God brought many special international students into his life as he and Janet enjoyed being an International Friendship Connection’s host family.

John became a believer in Jesus Christ as his Savior in his later 20’s and his life took on new focus and purpose. The Bible, which at one time held little interest, became very meaningful and remained so for the rest of his life. Proverbs 9:10:  “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the holy one is understanding.” Indeed, wise men still seek Him.

If you would like to join us to celebrate the work of God in John’s life, calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Friday at Redmon Funeral Home. Pastor Bruce Chouinard will conduct a memorial service at 1 PM on Saturday at Grace Baptist Church (5915 Rhodes Road, Kent) where John had been a longtime member. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church.
