Obituary of Margie E. Simpson

Margie E. Simpson, 95, formerly of Dayton, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Danbury Woods in Cuyahoga Falls, in the company of her daughter Alice, who helped her transition to her new home in heaven.

She was born March 19, 1922, in Lebanon, Ohio, the daughter of Everett and Johanna Gustin. She graduated from Waynesville High School, then earned her registered nursing degree from Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, in the class of 1942. She then worked as a nurse at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton. Margie married John N. Simpson on July 16, 1943. After a break to start a family, she resumed her nursing career when her children started school. She was employed as a head nurse on the obstetrics floor at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton for 16 years. A member of First Lutheran Church in Dayton since 1942, she served for many years as Sunday School superintendent and in numerous other leadership roles. She was also a volunteer in the church office until she moved to Cuyahoga Falls in 2012. Margie was preceded in death by her husband, John.

She is survived by her son, Mike (Becky) Simpson, Redfield, Iowa; daughter, Alice Simpson, Cuyahoga Falls; two grandsons, Travis (Sara) Simpson, Grimes, Iowa; and Kevin (Lindsay) Simpson, Thermopolis, Wyo.; two great-granddaughters, Lilah and Sadie Simpson; and her sister, Melba Parrett, Lake Wales ,Fla.

Calling hours will be held at Redmon Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 5th, from 4 to 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, Margie requested donations to First Lutheran Church, Dayton, Oh, or VNS Hospice. We wish to thank the Danbury Woods staff and VNS Hospice.
