Obituary of John R. McClung, Sr.

John R. McClung, Sr., 82 , went home to be with the Lord after a life well lived, on July 19, 2017.

He was born on September 1, 1934 in Red Star, West Virginia to the late Oswald Buryl and Mary Grace Stanley McClung. He served in the United States Air Force as Strategic Air Command, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved working in his garden. John was also a member of The Full Gospel House of Prayer.

Preceded in death by his sister, Polly Thomas and one brother, James, he is survived by the love of his life, Jean Ann, to whom he was married for 59 1/2 years; his children, John (Pam) McClung, Steve (Lisha) McClung, Daniel McClung, and Stacy Viningre; grandchildren Jamie (Rodney) Ross, Rebecca (Scott) Zirke, Jonathan McClung, Sarah McClung, Ethan (Hope) McClung, Mason McClung, Jake (Brittanee) Viningre, Jessica Viningre, and Eric (Loretta) Stalnaker; great-granddaughters Kaitlyn, Hannah, Ryann, Reagan, Ella, Phoebe, Brooklynn, and Madelynn. He is also survived by his sister Brenda (Ed) Coburn and his faithful dog Harvey Leroy.

The family wishes to thank the nurses on the 3100 wing of the AGMC TCU and the entire staff at the Justin T. Rodgers VNS Center in Fairlawn, for their care and compassion.

Friends and family may call Monday, July 24, 2017 from 4 to 8 PM at Redmon Funeral Home in Stow, where Pastor Darrel Libengood and Rev. John R. McClung, Jr. will conduct the funeral Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Silver Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Haven of Rest Ministries, 175 E. Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44308.
