Obituary of Phyllis J. Walters
Phyllis J. (Blakney) Walters, "FeFe", 76, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 30,2017 due to complications from Alzheimer’s.
Phyllis was born and raised in Akron, Ohio to her parents John Blakney and Dorothy (Nagel) Shaver and resided most of her life in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. She retired from the Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) on August 31, 2001 with 26 yrs. of service.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert J. Walters (1995); brothers in-law, Harry Walters, William Bergeron and sister in-law Mary Ann Walters.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Michael) McGhee; granddaughter, Sophia “Nana’s Sweetheart” McGhee; siblings, Sandy (William “Ski”) Humenansky, Dorothy “Dottie” Hoffman, John (Dinah) Blakney; brothers in-law, Foster “Bud”, Verlin (Charlotte), Richard (Beverly), Floyd, Carl; sisters in-law, Mayonna Darling, Betty Bergeron and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
Phyllis was an active member of Falls Baptist Temple/Falls Creek Community Church for 35 years, where she taught Sunday School for 20 plus years, and was active in AWANA’s for many years as the secretary and Cubbies leader.
Phyllis chose to stop attending church in 2014 when her memory loss caused her to not know the names of her longtime church friends & family.
Phyllis enjoyed crocheting blankets, often times giving them as gifts to her loved ones and friends. She especially enjoyed crocheting “ABC” blankets for the arrival of new babies. Alzheimer’s also robbed her of this in 2015.
Visiting hours will be held at Redmon Funeral Home located in Stow, Ohio on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 5 to 8 PM and on Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 10 to 11 AM followed by an 11 AM funeral service. Interment will be conducted at Oakwood Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, a contribution could be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Box 74924, Cleveland, Ohio 44194-1007.
