Obituary of Robert E. Fleming
Robert "Bob" Eugene Fleming, age 83, of Stow, Ohio, formerly of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Zanesville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, August 31st, 2017.
A graveside service for both Bob and Pat Fleming will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, October 6th, 2017 at Memorial Park in Zanesville, Ohio. Pastor Marjorie McDaniel-Burnett will officiate. A memorial service for Bob will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 7th, 2017 at Resurrection Lutheran Church located at 1981 Graham Road, Stow, Ohio 44224. Pastor Laurel Bob will be officiating.
Bob was born in Manchester, Ohio on November 3, 1933, the youngest of three children of George and Thelma Fleming. He graduated from Zanesville High School. Bob served in the United States Navy Armed Services and served in the department of the Navy during the Korean War earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and United National Service Medal.
Bob was married to Patricia "Pat" Eppley, who preceded him in death, for 60 years. They started their married life in Zanesville, OH in 1954 and Bob worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company in various positions, then in 1973 moved the family to St. Clairsville, OH due to a job relocation. In 1978 the family again relocated to Stow, OH, for a job promotion, living there until Bob's retirement as an Engineering Training Instructor from AT&T in 1993. He and Pat retired to Myrtle Beach, SC where they enjoyed the sun, the beach, and their favorite sport of golf until 2013 when they moved back to Stow, OH due to health concerns.
Bob was an active member of the Lutheran Church throughout his lifetime. In addition, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Bob is survived by his children, eldest daughter, Rhonda Latkovic of Palm Desert, CA; Robin Houk of Stow, OH; his son, Robert "Bob" Fleming of Bridgeville, PA; his son-in-laws, Nicholas Latkovic, Kurt Houk, and daughter-in-law, Lisa Fleming; his grandchildren, Sarah Houk of Anchorage, AK and her spouse, Wesley; Kevin, Kyle, and Samantha Houk of Stow, OH; Ryan, Caroline, Luke, and Ashley Fleming of Bridgeville, PA; his brother, George Fleming and wife, Jackie of East Fultonham, OH; his brother, Richard Fleming and wife, Glenna and his step-brother, Whiten Mauk all of Zanesville, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Bob's name to Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1750, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576 or to City of Hope, 1500 East Duarte Road, Duarte, CA 91010 and please designate your memorial donation in Bob's name to cancer research.
