Obituary of Thomas D. Stine
Thomas D. Stine, M.D. of Stow, passed away Monday October 9, 2017, at his home. A son of the late Frank W. and Frances (Krushnosky) Stine, he was born July 24, 1929 in Pittston, PA. On June 6, 1980, he married Muriel Stine with whom he spent 37 wonderful years of marriage before his passing.
Thomas received his Bachelors of Science from Wilkes College in 1951, a Master’s of Science from Miami University, Ohio in 1952, and his Medical Doctorate from Jefferson Medical College in 1956. He worked at several hospitals over the years, serving his internship at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital in 1957 and his residency at Akron City Hospital from 1959 to 1963. He went on to start his own private practice of Obstetrics/Gynecology in 1963 and practiced medicine up until his retirement in 1997. Thomas was also a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the 3rd Marine Division from 1957-1959.
He was a member of several organizations including the Medical Society of Greater Akron and the Ohio State Medical Association. Thomas was also a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and of the American College of Obstetrics/Gynecology. A devout catholic, he was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church.
Dr. Stine had a passion for traveling the globe with his lovely wife Muriel. He was an avid chess player, teaching and playing with his children and grandchildren. Thomas enjoyed fly-fishing and walking the streams at Rockwell Springs, his happy place. He was also a lover of opera and classical music, taking lessons and studying the cello in his spare time. Above all he loved his family and the time he spent with them.
Thomas leaves, and will be sadly missed by his, wife Muriel Stine, two sons Frank Stine and Dale Weinberg; and two daughters Joanne Stine and Lisa (Jerry) Reaven. He also leaves behind two grandsons Max Reaven and David Weinberg; two granddaughters Pamela Howell and Michelle Smith; and two great grandsons Serg Howell and Ryan Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons, Jason Reaven of Blessed Memory and Michael Stine.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday October 15, 2017 at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, OH 44224. Mass will be held Monday October 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 3179 Kent Road, Stow, OH 44224.
