Obituary of Barbara A. Blanchard

Barbara Ann Blanchard (Ward), 89, of Stow, Ohio passed away surrounded by her family on October 18, 2017 in her home.

Barb was born in Cleveland, OH to Paul and Gertrude Ward on October 2, 1928. She went to high school at Rhodes High School and graduated in 1946. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Bowling Green State University. She worked as a teacher for Cuyahoga Falls Public Schools for 30 years. She was an avid golfer and bowler (participating on various leagues), loved traveling, playing bridge, enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles and loved music (participating in multiple groups at her church). She received multiple “Teacher of the Year” awards from the Cuyahoga Falls Board of Education for her work at Henry Newberry Elementary School and was a volunteer at Summa St. Thomas Hospital and a member of Cuyahoga Falls Woman’s Club.

Barb is survived by her daughters Cheryl Blanchard-Catalano of Stow, OH and Brenda Blanchard-Kooser of Littleton, CO, son-in-law Barry Kooser of Littleton, CO, grandchildren Christopher Catalano of Cuyahoga Falls, Jennifer Catalano of Cuyahoga Falls, Joshua and Courtney Catalano of Cuyahoga Falls, Erin Catalano of Stow and great-grandson Cymon Catalano of Cuyahoga Falls. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles D Blanchard.

Friends are invited to calling hours from 6-8 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Redmon Funeral Home (3633 Darrow Road, Stow 44224) and a memorial service on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 10 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, (2141 Fifth Street, Cuyahoga Falls 44221), with Reverend Keith Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens (4724 State Road, Peninsula 44264). Memorial donations may be made to the music program at Redeemer Lutheran Church and Christian School (2141 Fifth Street, Cuyahoga Falls 44221) or to the Cuyahoga Falls Woman’s Club, (830 Munroe Falls Avenue, Munroe Falls 44262). She lived life to the fullest, loved to laugh, had a silly sense of humor and was a blessing to all who knew and loved her
