Obituary of Barbara J. Bickler
HUDSON- Barbara J. Bickler passed away November 12, 2017 at the age of 90, with her devoted daughters by her side. After a long, courageous fight with Alzheimer's, her body surrendered and is finally at peace.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband Raymond; parents, Ernest and Loraine Hookway; brothers, Jack (Edmond) and Bill (Dale), she is survived by her loving daughters, Carol (Greg) Dohner of Hudson, Sue (Don) Tamulonis of Boardman; caring grandmother of Danielle (Jarrod) Mink, Christopher (Kalyn) Dohner, Loraine (Dan) Wysmier, Lindsey Tamulonis, Courtney (Josh) Colla, Scott and Mark Dohner; great grandmother of 6; several nieces and nephews.
Barbara will be remembered for her compassionate and nurturing soul with an unselfish heart, and a sense of humor and wit. Even at death, she donated her brain to the UH Medical Center for research, in hopes to find a cure.
She was a longtime resident of the area. After graduating from Cuyahoga Falls High School (1945), she continued her studies at the University of Akron, earning a B.A. degree in Home Economics, where she was a proud member of Delta Zeta.
Barbara met her future husband, Raymond, while working at Jones Confectionary in Cuyahoga Falls (she made the best vanilla milkshakes). They were married on June 18, 1949, and enjoyed 41 wonderful years together prior to his passing on August 7, 1990.
Barbara was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing for her daughters, cooking, baking, volunteering and travelling. She enjoyed substitute teaching at Hudson High School when her daughters became teenagers.
She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be deeply missed.
Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Tuesday 5-7 PM. Rev. Paul Beal will conduct service Wednesday 10 AM at Hudson United Methodist Church, 2600 Hudson Aurora Road, Hudson 44236. Burial Oakwood Cemetery. Should friends desire, donations may be made to The GriefCare Place (Stow), the Alzheimer's Association (Hudson), or your favorite charity.
