Margie Hanson

Obituary of Margie A. Hanson

Margie A. (Huelle) Hanson, 68, was united with Jesus Christ in heaven on Sunday, November 19, 2017.

A resident of Bath, she leaves behind her husband of 32 years, Terry Hanson, and their daughter, Jennifer Hanson, age 24.  Margie never let cancer defeat her spirit, but kept her eyes locked on Jesus, His very real love for her and His promises to carry her through the journey.

Terry lovingly named Margie “a beautiful butterfly” because her beautiful spirit touched everyone she met.  Her radiant spirit was so inviting that people naturally opened their hearts to her.  Her entire countenance was positive and uplifting.  Margie’s lifelong passion was to encourage and connect others, especially young people, to help them find their way in life. Constantly grateful for all of God’s gifts, her favorite sayings were, “Thank the Lord!” and “The Lord is good!”

The youngest of 10 siblings, all of whom live in Oklahoma and California, Margie always considered herself as a “California girl.”   She was born in Nebraska July 22, 1949 to Henrietta and Wendell Huelle, but moved to S. California at the age of two. She earned her BA and MA from California State University in Latin American Studies and in Adult & Family Counseling.   Margie loved the Latin American culture and people!  She became one of the first bi-lingual teachers in the L.A. area, where she taught for 17 years.  Her true career love was serving as an academic counselor in community colleges in S. California for six years.

While in California, Margie met her true love, Terry, on a church softball team, where Terry was the coach and she was the pitcher. They were married in Yosemite on Sept. 15, 1985.  A career move brought the couple to Akron, Ohio in 1992, where Jennifer was born – their biggest shared joy in life.

Margie worked as an in-school tutor for Akron Public Schools and retired as a teacher/liaison with the partial-hospitalization program at Akron Children’s Hospital. Margie served in leadership with Bible Study Fellowship and Revere Moms in Prayer.  She was an active member of both The Chapel in Akron and Grace Church – Bath Campus and Bath Volunteers for Service.  The light of her life touched more people than we can imagine.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday 3 PM at Grace Church, 745 Ghent Road, Akron 44333, and where friends may call from 1 PM until service time.  Private burial Friday in Moore’s Chapel Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Church, Feed My Starving Children.
