Obituary of Robert Theodore Kus

Robert Theodore Kus was born July 4, 1918 in Cleveland, Ohio, and died December 20, 2017, with his wife and family surrounding him.

Bob was a University of Akron graduate and a dedicated Firestone employee, retiring after 44 years of service. In retirement, he was a 27-year volunteer business counselor with SCORE. (Service Corps of Retired Executives)

Bob grew up in the Great Depression and was in combat zone every minute of all five World War II battles, including Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe, and Rhineland in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Captain in the United States Army and was awarded five combat stars and a bronze star.

Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Pat, his daughter, Jeanette Downey, and his son-in-law, Dr. Richard Murray.

Bob leaves his loving wife, Mary Jean, of 71 years, his children Fr. Robert James of Wilmington, NC, Lawrence Stanley (Sally) of Cuba Lake, NY, Christine Anne (Bruce) Isler, of North Canton, and son-in-law Raymond (Bev) Downey Jr. of Stow.

Bob and Mary have been blessed with 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Bob was a Knight of Columbus for 65 years, as well as a Fourth Degree Member. He enjoyed golf, bowling, woodworking, and the outdoors. Some of his favorite memories were of traveling with his wife, Mary Jean. He was a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Stow.

Bob was a man of great faith, love, and loyalty. His family always came first. He was proudly part of the “Greatest Generation,” as he would say. He saw many things in his lifetime, experienced hardships, and persevered.
