Obituary of James D. McCrady
James D. McCrady, 83, passed away January 4th, 2018. He was born on July 4th, 1934 in Akron, Ohio to Byron and Dorothy McCrady.
Jim grew up in Portage Lakes and as a child, he enjoyed the Boy Scouts, football and basketball. He attended Coventry High School where he graduated in the Class of 1954. Jim and Karen married October 26, 1957 in Akron, Ohio and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together. Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957 and also served in the U.S. Army Reserve until 1963. He was very proud of his service to his country and shared many stories of his time in the Army. Jim was employed as a meat cutter for The Kroger Co. and Giant Eagle. He also worked for Hudson Builders and B. McCrady Construction before retiring.
His passions were the outdoors, fishing, camping, woodworking, making toys for his grandchildren, Cleveland sports, and a love for old cars. He also enjoyed spending time with the family he so loved and seeing his grandchildren grow up.
Jim was known for his generosity, always willing to help others in need. His kindness will not be forgotten by the many people he helped over the years.
He is preceded in death by his parents Byron and Dorothy (Gougler) McCrady. He is survived by his wife Karen (Miller) McCrady; sisters Barbara Marcello; Shirley (Carl) Ritchey; Karen (Jeff) Todd; brother Dan (Elonet) McCrady; sons Tim (Rima) McCrady; Scott McCrady; Michael (Martin Harrison) McCrady; Brian (Lori) McCrady; grandchildren Amanda, Taylor, Alec, Madison, and Travis McCrady
The family will receive friends on Thursday January 11th , 2018 from 2:00-4:00 PM and from 6:00-8:00 PM at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road in Stow. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 12th at 11:00 AM at Redmon Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Kent Healthcare, Universty Hospital of Ravenna, and others that helped take care of Jim in his time of need.
