Obituary of Annabelle "Ann" Walters
Annabelle “Ann” Walters, 91, went to be with the Lord January 23, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born on April 6, 1926 in West Virginia and moved to Akron in 1945.
A member of the Nazarene Church for 75 years, she taught Sunday School for 50 years, and enjoyed missionary work and teaching Bible School. Working with children was her passion.
In West Virginia, she taught in a one-room school house and in Ohio, she taught kindergarten at Mrs. Manchester’s Musical Pre-school. Ann was also the director at the Busy Bee Nursery School for many years. Her career continued at Kent State University where, for almost 20 years, she was the House Mother at Chi Omega sorority. Once a year, Chi Omega gives out a scholarship in her name. When her children were growing up, Ann was active in the PTA at three schools.
Writing was special to her and she wrote hundreds of songs, stories and plays, using them in Sunday, Grade and Nursery schools. Ann also loved to read, sing and collect dolls.
Ann touched so many hearts and if you were lucky enough to know her, you knew how much she loved life and laughed a lot. Her first love was serving the Lord and said, “God gave me laughter and a song in my heart”. Her favorite bible verse was “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”.
Ann had a long, happy and busy life. She said that her greatest achievement in life was her family and was so thankful for them. Preceded in death by husband William Walters, daughter Kathy Fillinger, and special “son” Chris Knight (who touched her heart), she is survived by her children, Larry (Debbie) Walters, Ken (Becky) Walters, Susie (Gerry) VanScholck and Debbie (Chuck) Wetzel; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and John, a man who meant a lot to her in her later years. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
