Obituary of Virginia Ann Irwin

Virginia Ann Irwin, 92, resident of the Pines in Davidson, North Carolina, passed into the arms of her Savior peacefully on May 4, 2018. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 1, 1926 to the late Merrill and Stella Hansen. She was born in Decatur, Illinois, but spent most of her life in Silver Lake and Stow, Ohio. She was married for 56 years to Neal L. Irwin, who preceded her in death in 2004. She is survived by her sister Marilyn (Erv) Lentz, of St. Paul, MN. She is also survived by her three children: Barbara (Jack) Higgins, of Cornelius, NC; Jim (Jan) Irwin of Mt. Vernon, WA; and Christine (Paul) Wills of Denver, NC. In addition, she is survived by five grandchildren: Lindsey (Travis) Martin of Redmond, WA; Jeff (Paula) Irwin of San Luis Obispo, CA; Ashley Wills of Charlotte, NC, Trey Wills of Alaska, and Brianna (Mike) Breault of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves five great-grandchildren: Anna, Brooke and Chloe Martin and Ainsley and Andrew Irwin. Ginny earned her BA degree from the University of Akron, and a second BA degree from Kent State University. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority while at the University of Akron. Ginny's career path included being a home economist for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company in Cleveland, Ohio and later she was a fourth grade teacher in the Stow City Schools. She was a member of The Chapel in Akron, Ohio, and later Davidson College Presbyterian Church in Davidson, North Carolina. While living in Ohio she volunteered as a grief counselor for the Redmon Funeral Home. In North Carolina, she participated in the prayer shawl ministry at the Pines. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Pines Resident Support Fund, The Pines at Davidson, 400 Avinger Lane, Davidson, NC 28036; The GriefCare Place, 4499 Darrow Road, Stow, OH 44224 or Davidson College Presbyterian Church, PO. Box 337, Davidson, NC 28036. She will be buried at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
