Obituary of Reed Tristan Gabor
Reed Tristan Gabor, 22, of Akron, passed away on June 7, 2018 in Akron.
Reed was born in Akron, Ohio to John D. Gabor and Jennifer L. (Bauer) Gabor on May 16, 1996. He went to high school at both the International School of Luxembourg and the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, and graduated from CVCA in 2014. He went on to earn his Ohio Emergency Medical Technician certificate in January 2017 from The University of Akron, and was studying to complete his Paramedics License with Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital. He worked as an EMT for AMR while studying.
Reed’s life was too short but was a celebration of motion, service, and friendship. A natural athlete, he was constantly in motion from playing little league baseball and skiing from his earliest years, to seeking to push his limits with marathons, backpacking, and Tough Mudder events in his college years. He followed Jesus as his personal Savior, and enjoyed the outdoors and his faith at Camp Carl every summer. When old enough, he served there as ropes instructor, counselor, and EMT. He served alongside his father in ministry at Katrina relief and in fixing cars, and he served his friends whenever needed. Reed loved his friends fiercely, epitomizing Proverbs 17:17: “a friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”
Reed is survived by his parents, John and Jennifer Gabor; sister, Veronica Gabor; grandparents, Bill and Beverly Bauer and John D. Gabor; uncle and aunt, Tim and Theresa Frosell; aunt and uncle, Cathy Gabor and Rob Fuller; cousins, Jim and D’Anne Frosell, Bill and Katelin Frosell; and goddaughter, Rachel Frosell. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Lynn Gabor.
Friends are invited to The Chapel, 135 Fir Hill, Akron, where calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 14 from 5 to 8 PM and Friday, June 15 from 10 to 11:15 AM in the Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be held Friday at 11:30 AM in the Memorial Chapel with Pastor Josh Lough officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family strongly encourages memorials for Reed be made to what he termed “the happiest place on earth,” Camp Carl. Memorials may be made to The Chapel, Camp Carl Scholarship, 135 Fir Hill, Akron, Ohio 44304.
