Mark McCausland

Obituary of Mark John McCausland

Mark J. McCausland, 67, passed away Thursday July 12, 2018.

He was born to Jack and Helen (Fitzgibbons) McCausland, October 18, 1950, in Vancouver, British Columbia, after which the family moved to the U.S. in 1961. Mark served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving his Purple Heart, as well as other honors in recognition of his valor and service before being honorably discharged in 1970. He began his college career at Kent State, eventually transferring and graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Akron with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts. His extraordinary intelligence could have taken him anywhere in life, but he chose to give back to his fellow servicemen and women, retiring from his career as a VA benefits counselor with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Cleveland. Throughout his life, Mark was a phenomenal illustrator and accomplished artist, bringing beauty and joy to so many with his deliberate, yet easy brush stroke.

He was a devoted husband, exceptional father, and fun-loving, adoring grandfather to his granddaughters. Mark and Susan traveled extensively, enjoying what life had to offer as well as each other, never letting the flame of passion burn out. There are no words to describe how much Mark will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will treasure the time they had with him and will always carry him in their hearts.

Mark is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan (Wilson) McCausland; daughters Olivia Phillips and Katherine McCausland; son Patrick (Shannon) McCausland; granddaughters Arizona Phillips and Grace McCausland; sister Katherine A. Carver; niece Krystina Carver, father-in-law Arthur R. Wilson, as well as many extended family members and wonderful friends.

Friends may call from 2 -3 PM on Saturday, with the service being conducted by Pastor Jill Smith at Redmon Funeral Home at 3 PM. Burial will take place at a later date at Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Summit County Humane Society or The Salvation Army.
