Obituary of Robert F. Blair
Robert F. Blair, 89, formerly of Stow, Ohio died August 26, 2018.
Born in Westford, PA, he graduated from Jamestown H.S. in 1946. In their class prophecy, they predicted he would have a "Fix-It Shop" someday. They weren't quite right on that, but his home became his "fix-it shop": cars, televisions, washing machines, hair dryers, toys . . . just to mention a few.
As soon as he graduated from high school, he got a job at the Meadville Telephone Company digging post holes. Later, while still on hourly pay, he was placed in charge of the warehouse. Later, when the company merged and became Mid-Continent, he was given a job in Elyria, OH in a level one management position, planning a new warehouse that was badly needed. The company then merged again, becoming Alltel. He was then transferred to Hudson, OH in a second level management position, proving to have a good work ethic and be teachable. Altogether, he worked for a telephone company for a total of 47 1/2 years.
He was drafted in 1950 and sent to Germany after basic training to serve in the 2nd Army Signal Corps for the balance of his two years.
A member of The Chapel since 1982, he was also a member of Western Whirlers Square Dancing Club from 1984 to 2016, and The Gideons for many years.
Preceded in death by his parents Ivor and Gertrude Blair, he is survived by his wife Lois; children Douglas Blair of Jeromesville, OH, Sandra (Craig) Rush of San Francisco, CA and Dr. Donald (Nadine) Blair of Big Sky, MT; grandchildren Ryan Blair, Sarah (Geoff) Moes, Kristin (Nate) Shipman, Kayleigh Blair, Alex Blair, Andrew Rush, Brian Rush.
Pastor Isaac Van Epps will conduct service Wednesday 11:30 AM at Redmon Funeral Home, where friends may call from 10 AM until service time. Burial Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice at Laurel Lake Retirement Center or The Chapel in Akron.
