Obituary of Myra Ellen Schneider

Myra Ellen Schneider went home to be with her Savior at the age of 68 on October 31, 2018.  Myra was born on January 3, 1950 in Wauseon, Ohio.  Growing up in Delta, she graduated from Delta High School in 1968 and went on to earn a degree in social work at the University of Toledo.  

Myra leaves behind her husband of 41 years, Bob; her four sons whom she was so proud of, Chris (Wendy), Dan (Michelle), Tim (Allison), and Steve Cooper; Ten grandchildren, Savannah, Ryan, Landon, Sophie, Aden, Abby, Audrey, Caleb, Chloe and Emily; sister Ruth (Marc) Dielman, and her brother David (Heather) McQuillin.

Myra’s favorite times were spent with her family and grandchildren. When she wasn’t with them, she was planning for birthdays, holidays, weekend trips to see the kids, or big family vacations that have created lasting memories.  Myra made a wonderful legacy by prioritizing family time and being an example of Jesus Christ to others in her life.

She met her husband Bob, a fellow social worker at the time, in Akron and married in 1977. Over the past 41 years of marriage, they served the Lord together at various times through The Navigator’s, The Haven of Rest (Harvest Home) and numerous ministries at The Chapel in downtown Akron. Myra helped start several ministries during those years including Mother’s Club, a ministry to young moms, and more recently, enjoyed teaching English to international students.  

One of Myra’s dreams in high school was to serve abroad and see the world. That dream was more than fulfilled as she traveled to over 40 countries around the world ministering to missionaries with Bob as he served as Missions Pastor for The Chapel.  Myra had an amazing ministry of encouraging and mentoring missionary wives and single women throughout the world.

Myra spent 24 years as a social worker at the Haven of Rest using her God-given gifts to help women. Her ministry of compassionate care, mature wisdom, and excellent management skills, impacted the lives of not only thousands of women who came through the Harvest Home, but also many young staff members that Myra trained and mentored.

Myra will be remembered as a woman who was always there to help. Her generosity knew no bounds whether it was a gift of time, financial assistance, or preparing a homemade meal with loving hands and prayer.   

Myra’s faith wasn’t just what she believed for the after-life, but it was a relationship with Jesus Christ that changed the way she lived here on earth.  Myra lived with an eternal perspective, devoting her profession to serving homeless women and touching lives wherever she went. Myra’s legacy will live on in the countless lives she impacted, and certainly through her children and grandchildren, whom she prayed for so often.  

Friends are invited to celebrate Myra’s life at The Chapel in Akron (135 Fir Hill) for calling hours Friday, November 2nd from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel, or Saturday, November 3rd from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM in the main sanctuary. The funeral service will be held following the calling hours on Saturday, November 3rd at 11:00 AM in the main sanctuary of The Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, Myra would be honored if gifts would be made to the Harvest Home at Haven of Rest Ministries or to help the desperately poor women and children of India by giving to Dalit Freedom Network. Envelopes for both ministries will be available at the service.
