Obituary of Thomas Carl Jones, Jr.

Thomas Carl Jones Jr., 90, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Thanksgiving night.  Tom was born on November 10, 1928 in Akron, Ohio, to Bessie (nee Hensley) and Thomas Carl Jones, Sr. (both deceased).  He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Elizabeth (nee Donatell). He is also survived by his brother Robert Jones (Jackie) and sister Beverly DeAngelis (Pete).  He leaves his dear children Ronald Jones (Norene) of Stow, Ohio, Walter Jones (Lisa) also of Stow, and Mary McKee of Melbourne, FL.  He was “Grandpa Jones” to Tim Jones (Stephanie), Kevin Jones (fiancée Lauren), Erin Jones (fiancé Justin), Amanda English (Kyle), Matt McKee (Mandy), Kate Nelson (Tyler).  He was “Great-Grandpa Jones” to Nicole Jones; Midas, Calix, Mischa, Coral McKee; Ava, Drew, Caroline, Violet English; and Shia Nelson.

He taught art in the Akron Schools where he met his sweetheart Betty, and retired as an administrator from Ellet High School.  Tom was a proud army veteran of the Korean War.  

Tom was an accomplished photographer and watercolor artist.  He was a prestigious member of the Ohio Watercolor Society (OWS) and Whiskey Painters of America (WPA).  The themes of his paintings and photographs often depicted his love of nature and the outdoors.  In his retirement he enjoyed working at Metzger’s Photo and taught many classes at the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center.  

He was committed to his Catholic faith and prayed the rosary daily.  In recent years Tom added “Soli Deo Gloria” to his signature on his paintings - “Glory to God Alone”. He will be missed by those whose lives he touched.  There will be no calling hours.  Private services will be attended by the family and his final resting place will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
