Gary Combs

Obituary of Gary R. Combs

Gary R. Combs, 78, died peacefully in his sleep December 29, 2018, with his devoted wife of 54 years by his side.  He fought a hard battle with multiple cancers.  Gary was formerly from Pittsburgh and resided in Stow.

An avid Steelers fan, Gary enjoyed woodworking, and took great pride in his work.  Those that received his gifts know they are irreplaceable and loved.  He retired from Babcock and Wilcox in 2000, and volunteered his time to Fospar and Good Neighbors for 16 years.  Gary was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Stow.

Preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucille Combs, he is survived by his loving wife Barbara (“Crazy Old Broad”, as he called her); children Connie (Mike Pollard), Cheri (Kevin) Mincks, Gary (Amy) Combs; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Per his request, cremation has taken place.  He stated “I don’t want everyone looking at my dead body.”  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, he requested donations to Good Neighbors.

He will forever be remembered for his devotion to his family, volunteering and sense of humor until the end.  Fly high Gary.
