Obituary of Robert D. Farrell
Robert D. Farrell, 95, died January 27, 2019 surrounded by his family at his home in Stow, after a short illness. He was a proud member of the Stow community since 1958.
Bob was born June 24, 1923, in Akron, Ohio to Henry and Beulah Farrell. He won the Beacon Journal Spelling Bee in 1937, and then went on to compete in the National Spelling Bee in Washington. Bob graduated from North High School in 1941, Ohio State University in 1946, and The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1956. He practiced dentistry in the city of Stow for 48 years, retiring at the age of 80.
Bob married Marjorie J. Eaton on November 24, 1954, in Columbus, Ohio. They had a beautiful and loving relationship that the whole family treasured. Bob was an active founding member of the Stow Presbyterian Church, a military veteran, and past president of the Stow Rotary Club. Bob loved the Ohio State Buckeyes and all northeastern Ohio sports teams.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marjorie J. Farrell; daughter, Patricia Farrell-Jenney; son, Todd E. Farrell (Sonya); and grandchildren Bailey and Marshall Farrell, and Shauna and Cassidy Jenney. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Phane of Santa Maria, CA, and brother Thomas Farrell of Santa Barbara, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard E. Farrell, his sister Betty Farrell, and his sisters-in-law, Jackie Farrell, Janet Ross, and Bette Farrell. Bob also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear life long friends and devoted neighbors.
Bob was an extremely kind and humble man, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. As his wife said, “To know Bob is to love him.” A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at the Stow Presbyterian Church at a date to be announced by the family.
