The love of his life, Patricia Sryvalin (nee Condor), passed away in November 2019 after a long illness. Alejo was also predeceased by sisters Natalia Stanichevsky and Susana Florentin. He is survived by his sons David, Paul and Michael; daughter Elizabeth; and grandchildren Matthew, Alec, Liam, Carter and Sawyer. Alejo was born in Asuncion, Paraguay on April 10, 1931, to Vladimir and Elena Sryvalin. He graduated from the University of Asuncion in 1955 as a physician, after which he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and completed graduate medical studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Alejo began his medical career as a resident in surgery at St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio from 1961 to 1965. Upon his retirement from private practice in 1997, Alejo came full circle, returning to his beloved St. Vincent Charity Hospital as a surgical house physician until he retired to his orchids and home on Hilton Head Island. Alejo was a man of many interests. He was an avid collector of orchids who made many expeditions to the jungles of South America to harvest little known species. Throughout his life, he traveled far and wide with his wife and children. Alejo was also a devoted Catholic who transferred his deeply held values to his children as a parishioner of St. Albert the Great in North Royalton and later at St. Mary in Hudson. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church (340 North Main Street, Hudson, Ohio, 44236).
