I am so saddened to hear the loss of Scott. My deepest condolences to you and Brian. I still remember when you got married, and meeting Scott for the first time. The memories I have are fond and dear to me. Scott was a wonderful man, and loved you and his family so much.

Scott and I grew up in the same neighborhood and we were best friends in junior high and high school. We used to go to many events in his Chevy Bel Air (white) and had a great time with Bob Hinely, Alan Murray, Chuck Ohl, Gary Schmidt and many others. Scott had the best jump shot in the neighborhood (as my brother Rick reminded me) and enjoyed all sports. We attended many YSU basketball games while in high school at the old South High School gym. Mr. and Mrs. Ruther were wonderful parents who occasionally had to throttle some of our "behaviors." I regret in not reaching out to see Scott since his wedding. He was a terrific friend. My deepest sympathies to wife Joyce and son Brian.

Joyce and Brian, Polly and I were so sad to hear that my dear friend Scott had passed away late last week. Both of us grieve with the two of you, and the rest of your family. I enjoyed the friendship of Scott for so many years, especially on the golf course. He was such a special person. I know that Scott was a great family man, who was so proud of Brian, and I know loved Joyce very much. Since we are in Florida, we'll not be able to be at the service this weekend. Hope we can call after we get home in a few weeks. God Bless the two of you, as well as my dear friend Scott.

To the family of Scott Ruther, I send my deepest condolences. I grew up with Scott. He was one of my earliest friends at West Boulevard Grade School in Boardman and all the way thru high school. I have to say that we had a wonderful childhood. We loved all sports, professional, college and high school and especially the ones we played when we got home from school. We spent many a night at one another's home playing board games and talking sports. When one of us was able to get our parents to take us to a ball game in Pittsburgh or Cleveland, we usually invited the other to go along. In high school Scott was a top notch basketball player and had one of the sweetest jump shots I ever saw, so smooth.
After high school our paths diverged but I always wondered how he was doing. Scott's mom and dad were kind enough to come to my father's funeral in 2003 and update me on Scott, who had already retired! Somehow, I wasn't amazed. I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I thought a lot of Scott and offer my deepest sympathies to you because I know you must miss him terribly.
Sincerely,
Bob Hinely
