One of the single most genuinely humble and talented souls in the music industry. Bought my first acoustic guitar in your tiny little shop on Portage Trail across from the granite countertop shop. I was only 16yrs old and bought a black with white outline acoustic samick greg bennet tribute to mimic johnny cash and after seeing Phil Keaggy at the Akron Civic wanted to be of that talented upcoming. Spent all my mowing money that summer. Best investment I've ever made. I blessed the guitar into another young man's life that showed the same fire I had on that day but financially couldn't obtain it. Music has never left me- men of your character and talent behind the instrument is what keeps the fire kindled in my own journey. Over the years (I'm now 33) each encounter I've had was a memory; from the free guitar picks with each purchase to the conversation that we had over topics of anything music I left feeling like family. I came in today to see you about furthering my music education to find your name no longer on the building and to find that God called you home. You will be deeply missed my friend. Rest in peace.

Dear Pekar Family, I knew your dad from seeing him out at a local restaurant, all the time. He was always nice and always fun to be around. Please accept my sincere and deep condolences, at this time , for your loss. I fully believe, Mike made it into heaven for being a good and consistent person, all the time. I never made it into his store but I will now if it remains open. I play guitar. My family has had many difficult issues as of late, as well.
If you ever want to contact me for a fun stories, let me know. God bless & comfort you for the rest of your days, Pekar family!
Sincerely,
Eric Almonte

I met Mike a couple years ago when my wife and I stopped into his store just to check it out. I was wearing a Jeff Beck t-shirt, and he pointed out an autographed photo of Jeff Beck displayed on his wall. We had a wonderful visit with Mike, and I eventually bought an electronic piano for my wife from Pekar Music for Christmas. After realizing that Mike really knew his stuff, I took all of my electric guitars in for service. The guitars had been in storage for years, and Mike and his technician brought them back to life in amazing shape. He was a really lovely guy that I trusted completely and really enjoyed spending time with whenever I walked through the door. I will miss him, and Ginger. We send our deepest and sincerest condolences to all his family and friends ( and his friend Phil K of Glass Harp ). God bless you, Mike. Ray and Michelle Rousseau.

My prayers are with Phyllis and Tom and the rest of the family during these days. 60 years ago, my cousin Mike and I used to play with his model trains in his basement, run around the neighborhood, and always have a good time whenever my family came to visit his family. I will miss Mike and his friendship and his love of music. Those memories of our friendship will be with me forever.

Sincere and heartfelt condolences to all of Mike's family and friends.
Mike was a wonderfully kind and gentle man, and also a good businessman. I knew Mike for over 30 years, from back when he was a regular at Rockne's sitting at the bar drinking his bud light on ice. I bought my first guitar from Mike in 1997, an Oscar Schmidt acoustic he recommended. He told me the way to learn the the guitar was by playing an acoustic, then go to electric.I visited Mike at his store many years, he recommended a lot of very good gear, and purchased a lot of gear from him, he could always be trusted. I moved away from Ohio about fifteen years ago. I went to see Mike at his store every time I came back to Ohio for a visit, it was always a highlight to talk with him, buy some gear, and play with Ginger.
Rest in Peace Mike, Jim Gowin

Mike was such a kind and generous person. In the late 80s- early 90s I worked at Rocknes Pub. Mike would come in and was always suc a a friendly great person that everyone like to be around. We were all happy to see him every time he came in. And when I got married he offered to DJ my wedding and he refused to take any money. His friendship during that time was such a blessing and an honor.
To his family, I’m so sorry for your loss. God Bless.
