With sadness I learned of Tom passing away. I fondly think of games I officiated when Tom participated as a most fair minded player. And I especially remember working with Tom as a fellow refeeree in high-school soccer games. Condolences to Linda and the Mercer family.

I went to high school with Tom and graduated with Dave. Tom was always one of the best athlete's in cross country, basketball and track. He could outrun and outplay most, especially me! His athletic ability was amazing. I can still see him making that off balance shot and/or running away from the pack on the track. After he got married and at some point eventually moved to Board Drive, my parent's neighborhood. Tom was always very nice and accommodating to them, which I am thankful. About 7-9 years ago, I started seeing Tom at my girls sporting events. Tom was their referee, which was pretty cool. He always did a great job. It gave us the opportunity to chat briefly before their soccer games and sometimes, afterwards. He always had a kind word to say. Tom passed his legacy and passion for sports to his kids and my oldest ended up playing against his kids coached teams in soccer! I want to pass along my deepest sympathy at your loss and some memories too!

Mr Mercer was an amazing teacher! I'm so sorry to hear he passed. He tried to make school and learning fun and cared about everyone at Woodridge. I pray for his family, he will definitely be missed.

Please accept our sincere sympathy on the loss of your husband and father. Tom was deeply respected and admired by all who knew him either as a coach of soccer, baseball, and track; as a referee or as a spectator cheering on the Woodridge community. He was a true teacher who instilled his knowledge of sports and sportsmanship to all the community children he coached.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Sandy, Christopher, John, Michael, and Willy Hetzel
