Remembering Brett from Stow High School and having enjoyed him as a student and football player. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. May God hold family and friends in His arms at this time of grief and offer comfort and understanding. Thank you for the beautifully written tribute telling of Brett's legacy after high school. Dee and Herb – I’m so sorry for your loss. Dee, no Mom should have to endure burying both their boys like you have. I hope the good Lord will provide comfort to you now and you know you will be holding them again someday.
*****
On the outside Brett was this fierce competitor and a talented athlete with deceptive quickness for someone with his sheer size and his “freakish” strength. As a center and a nose guard he was always smack in the middle of every play. Double teams didn’t work against Brett, you had to run away from him and yet he still made so many tackles. When Brett broke the Ohio teenage squat record – it looked like he could do another rep.
But for us who were close to Brett and lucky enough to call him a friend; it was Brett’s kindness, humility and his devotion and fierce loyalty to his friends that we will always remember and appreciate. Brett was also wicked smart and an excellent student. Brett wasn’t just really smart – he was also intellectually curious and loved to learn and understand things. And although everyone knew Bart was the musician, Brett had some talent too and loved to play the drums.
Brett’s legacy will live on with his boys and I hope they will know that they were so very fortunate to have Brett as their Dad.
He will be missed by many.
Psalm 62:5-8
Sincerely, Allen Motter
I’ve included a picture of Brett playing the drums – circa 1982.

We only knew Brett for a few years but we are grateful to have known him. We will truly miss him. He was a staple at Welcome To The Pit. We would look forward to seeing him on Sunday mornings as we walked through the doors and he would be boxing. Everyone at the gym knew and loved him. We send payers to his family.
