Dear Sue and family,
Steve and I want to express our sincere sympathy, care and concern over the passing of your dear husband and father, and our dear friend. We owe so much to Duane. Forty years ago he showed us in the Bible how we could be saved by believing in Jesus and led us to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. He took the time to meet with us every week for one year, teaching us the Bible and how to live as Christians. We will be eternally grateful for that and for his friendship as well as yours, Sue.
He was a good man, Bible teacher and gifted landscape designer. He made this world a better place by his beautiful landscape designs that we were blessed by as well as his Bible knowledge and concern for others.
He will be missed.
Love,
Sylvia and Steve Slifko

I got to meet Duane last Fall and consider him a great friend. I have never met, in my 20 years of following Christ, a man more committed to knowing the Bible and teaching people truth as I have in Duane. He spent so much time with me, challenging ideas and helping me see truth in God’s Word I had never seen before. He would go out of his way to text or even come meet with me. I’ll be forever grateful for his time and how he modeled to me what it looks like to pursue Christ with conviction and passion. His writings and commentaries he did were amazing and truly inspiring. He was an artist not only in design but in how he pursued Christ being able to see things in the Bible that not many do.
My condolences to the family. Duane was an amazing man and I know how much he loved you all.

John and I were one of the many people touched by Duane's architectural genius, as he designed our home seven years ago. We call it a home because of the love and effort that Duane put forth as he guided us through that difficult journey. With Duane, and often Sue, by our side, we revised designs many an evening at Duane's office until he gave it his final approval. He was always honest, yet gentle with his criticism. If he disagreed with our choices, he let us know, but he made sure it ultimately became a beautiful structure because it had his name on it. Duane was one of the few who genuinely loved his job and was a wonderful mentor to his grandson Eric. Together they created an outdoor haven of tranquility for our family to enjoy year round. About 6 weeks ago, I texted him explaining that we took special pleasure and appreciation for the visionary work he did on our home. As we have spent so much time at home the past ten months, his labor of love and beauty was brought to light during this difficult time. I never thought that would be our last encounter. I was blessed to have joined this family many years ago, and to have come to know Duane in such a special way. He certainly left a legacy of love and friendship throughout Ohio and beyond. His was truly a life well lived. We wish to extend our love and condolences to his beautiful family.
