Obituary of Avonelle Vonetta Andrews

HUDSON - Avonelle Vonetta Andrews (nee Bordner) died peacefully, December 31, 2020 in Hudson, Ohio. Avonelle, a 1950 graduate of Lykens High School, attended Bowling Green State University, Baldwin-Wallace University, and completed her degree in Secondary English Education in 1972 at The University of Pittsburgh. She taught English in the Pittsburgh Public School System and Special Education in the Elyria School District after relocating to North Olmsted, OH in 1976. Avie was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence Andrews. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Cuyahoga Falls, an avid quilter, member of the Cascade Quilt Guild, a weekly volunteer at the Akron Ronald McDonald House, and an enthusiastic naturalist. She loved birds, flowers, and the beach. Avonelle was born in Green Springs, OH, the oldest child of Ilene Glick Bordner and Glenn Alan Bordner, who farmed outside Bucyrus, OH. She developed a love for reading and explored the world through books before she had the means to travel. Avie encouraged everyone to read and improve themselves through education. Avie is survived by her son, David Arthur Andrews (Rose Orient Andrews), of Silver Lake Village OH; daughters, Laurie Elizabeth Andrews Nagel (Jeffrey Nagel), of St. Charles MO, and Avonelle Lynn Andrews Leonard (Thomas Leonard), of Fort Collins, CO; nine grandchildren, Luke Egan Andrews, Margaret Andrews Sherry, Clark Ian Andrews, Emma Noelle Andrews, Maxwell Andrews Nagel, Jaxon Andrews Nagel, Madeline Elizabeth Nagel, Jacquelyn Michelle Leonard Hays, and Thomas James Leonard; and four great-grandchildren, Avonelle Erin Hays, Rowan Rose Sherry, Heath Thomas Sherry, and Ruth Catherine Sherry; sisters, Annabelle Bordner Stinehelfer, and Joan Bordner Dunn; preceded in death by brother, Gene Bordner.
