Paula, you and your family have my sincere sympathies. I enjoyed so many Friday nights, laughter, parties and celebrations hosted by you and Rick. None of which would have been possible without Rick’s gracious and welcoming nature to everyone he met.

So many wonderful memories of an individual who devoted part of his life to serving others. I remember the day I first met Coach Robinette. I was in sixth grade and on the advice of my good friend, Chuck Brunn, I joined the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) wrestling team. Coach Robinette was built like a tank and despite my skinny tall frame he towered over me. He was a disciplined teacher who believed in fundamentals. One thing that comes to mind was the routine we all had to do before the end of practice. It was a routine that consisted of a sit-out, stand-up and roll which we did over and over. I was in the best shape of my life. Coach Robinette cared and loved us all. He taught me how to focus and harness my energy. Coach Robinette changed my life and set me on the path of success.

Rick Robinette coached wrestling at IHM in the 1970’s. I was fortunate to be a part of his team.
He had many undefeated teams; CYO team championships and to my knowledge at least 1 four time CYO champ. Two of his wrestlers went on to high school and became state champs.
Coach altered many of our lives for the better. His “no excuses” attitude was passed down to us. He taught us the gift of a strong work ethic.
I LOVE COACH ROBINETTE!!! I know he will always be with me. Our relationship grew from coach-athlete to so much more. He was my confirmation sponsor, and I also had the honor to be his daughter, Alison’s godfather. After my 3rd back surgery, a few year’s ago, he helped me get into shape so I could dance at my daughter’s wedding. That’s something I will always cherish.
FUN MEMORIES:
He took us to watch the HS state tournament. When the manager of the hotel found out we were there for tournament he didn’t want to give us rooms, in fear of rowdiness. Coach informed him that “I’m the coach and these are my disciplined wrestlers and parent’s”. We did end up staying at that hotel.
The team qualified for a tournament in Cleveland. After the first day we accumulated enough points to win the team title. It wasn’t enough for coach. He wanted for us to win individual championships and we did, all but 3 weight classes.
His practices were demanding. One wrestler who quit the team a year earlier came back. Coach pushed him hard. His name was Pat Stolfo. Coach knew if he pushed Pat hard enough he would succeed. Pat gave it 110% and won the championship. That summer Pat was killed by a drunk driver during his morning run. Coach started the Pat Stolfo 110% award for the one who worked the hardest.
I don’t know how to end this because it’s not over. He will continue to be with us. Nothing changes as he only wants nothing but the best of us!!! NO EXCUSES!!!
