Obituary of Marjorie A. McKinney

STOW - Margie (Marjorie) A. McKinney, passed away on January 20, 2021. Margie was delivered by her dad at home in Akron on December 18, 1938. She is survived by her loving husband Tom, together for 32 years; son Rick (Beth) Hunter of Kent; daughter Susan (John) Pirkl of Dublin, OH; stepdaughters Theresa (Rob) Morris of New Milford; Danielle (Matt) Cullion of Stow; stepson Ted (Kameron McCoy) McKinney of Camarillo, CA; 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren and brother Dale (Kate) Benner of Stockton, CA. Margie was preceded in death by father William Benner, mother Lucille Benner and very missed brother "Billy" (Marylou) Benner, formerly of Hudson and now Kitty Hawk, NC. Margie graduated from Kenmore High School, worked at Firestone and then Roadway in Akron as an executive secretary to one of the vice-presidents. Margie retired there in 1997 after 20 years service. After meeting Tom, she worked at Fox Den Golf Course part-time for 17 years. She played little golf but had a great swing. She loved music and enjoyed going to listen, and many times dance, to any live music in the area with husband Tom. She had a beautiful voice and would sing at bars and restaurants with a little encouragement from Tom and great piano playing friend, Mike Petrone. She could name almost any tune from 1957 and older and many "good" contemporary tunes as well. She played the piano at home and once in a while in public. For over 30 years during winter months, Margie and Tom enjoyed a few weeks on the beach at Ft. Myers Beach with their Harley-Davidson friends. All who knew her loved her gentle and friendly style, and Margie got more good looking as she grew older. She will be missed by all who knew her, especially husband Tom. Margie loved all of you back. Private services at Redmon Funeral Home and burial at Silver Springs Cemetery will be held. A public celebration of Margie’s life will be held at a later date. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Akron General Challenge Golf, 1596 Flickinger Road, Akron 44312.
