Obituary of Steven A. Mitchell
FAIRLAWN - Husband, father, grandfather, small business owner and retired jeweler, Steven A. Mitchell, 79, was with loved ones when he peacefully passed away February 2, 2021. His battle with Alzheimer's disease demonstrated his courage in facing life challenges with kindness and optimism.
He was born in Fairmont, West Virginia to the late Stephen and Annalee Wasarovich. Steven would later move to Akron, Ohio where he met his wife of 56 years, Barbaranne.
Steven was a veteran of the United States Air Force who served from 1960 to 1964. He attended Kent State University and later became a Certified Gemologist. He achieved his dream of being a small business owner when he opened Melissa's Jewelry in Richmond, Virginia, named after his daughter. After retirement, he spent time between Arizona and Ohio enjoying golf, cooking, tinkering with technology, and exercising.
Steven was a loving husband, father and dedicated grandfather who rarely missed a game, performance or event for his grandchildren in Hudson, Ohio and Paradise Valley, Arizona.
Steven is survived by his wife, Barbaranne (Gervais) Mitchell; two children, Melissa (John) Lentz, and Scott (Ashley) Mitchell; and his six grandchildren, Scott, Emily Katherine, Carter, Sarah Elizabeth, Madeline, and Jackson.
The family will greet friends at 11 AM on Wednesday, February 24th at Christ Community Chapel, located at 750 W. Streetsboro Street, Hudson, OH 44236. Pastor Joe Coffey will conduct service at 12 noon, and a private graveside service with military honors will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. All safety precautions will be enforced, masks will be mandatory, as well as social distancing will be practiced, and hand sanitation will be available.
