I'm already missing my brother. We shared a bedroom for 18 years several of those years we worked at KFC together. He left for West Point and we never lost a beat. Charlie and I were 15 months apart my friends were his friend and his friends were mine. We have millions of memories and we shared them everytime we spoke.
Charlie was smart and talented and was able to achieve anything he would set out to do. Most people would have no idea what he'd done or has acomplished because he nevered bragged.
I mentioned to him on occasions that he had to take a break from you-tube because he had seen everything on it. Dolphins blowing air rings, off the wall music videos and extreme sports stuff. Then he would go see all these things in person.
Nothing fake about him a big heart indeed. I will miss our conversation about everything! I think he knew a little something about everything
Yes I miss my brother already. RIP

With a heavy heart, I share with you a few memories we have of Charlie over the many years of friendship. It is absolutely heartbreaking to see someone so young and vibrant being taken from us at such a young age. Charlie was one to the most caring, kind, gracious friends one could ever hope for. Charlie was the absolute best of the best!
I met Charlie years ago when he and Anne moved in to our neighborhood in Stow. I happened to be in our driveway when I see this old Ford Bronco come strolling down our street. As this big old tank pulled in to the driveway next door, I realized our new neighbors had arrived. As the vehicle door swung open, this very large man exited the vehicle and looked over at me. He had a grin from ear to ear and we started talking. My initial reaction was, oh lord, I think Paul Bunyan has just moved next door! Well, it didn't take long for Charlie, Anne, and my family to hit if off. Before long, we were not only great neighbors, but great friends as well.
Charlie loved to eat. One of his favorites was an "all meat" pizza from Gioninos followed by a few Budweiser's. Ok, maybe it was more than a few Budweiser's! When Charlie would come over, I'd always hand him two beers at a time. If you asked Charlie why two beers, his response would be "that's how I roll"! Lesson learned. Two beers it is!!
Another thing that truly amazed me about Charlie was his ability to always seem to be ahead of everyone else, especially when it came to music and videos. There was an artist named CeeLo Green who put out a song and video called "Forget You", if I remember correctly. Well, when Charlie stopped over for a get together, he could not wait to show us this video. Needless to say, the name and lyrics in this version were totally different. Let's just say Charlies version had a few more adjectives to it. We all laughed. A few months later, this hit was a billboard smash. Once again, Charlie was way ahead of the game.
Charlie had a heart bigger than most I know. He was extremely gracious and would do anything for you. My kids absolutely adored Charlie and he treated them like they were his own. Charlie always went out of his way to tell me how blessed Peggy and I were to have such polite, respectful, well-rounded kids He loved being around them and always asked how they were doing. He and Anne were family to us and that would never change.
Aside from his wife, Anne, Charlie's other passion in life was his love for his dogs. They meant everything to him and were always such a big part of his life. Charlie and I enjoyed taking our dogs Lido and Summer for hikes in parks throughout the area. It was so much fun and very peaceful. I remember it being near zero one day and Charlie asked if I was ready to take the dogs hiking. I noticed he was wearing shorts. I thought to myself, no way this man is going in shorts. Well, I was wrong. Not only did he wear shorts, he never once complained about being too cold. Soon after, I realized Charlie wore shorts 365 days out of the year. Quite frankly, I don't think Charlie owned a single pair of pants!
Charlie is the epitome of what a true American Patriot aspires to be. Appointed to the West Point Military Academy, Charlie also played football for Army and continued to serve his country with honor and dignity. This is what a real hero looks like. We shared some military stories together regarding his time in the Army and my time in the Air Force. Through all his accomplishments and accolades, Charlie always remained the most humble and unassuming person I have ever met. Always putting everyone else first. That was Charlie!
Although our hearts are filled with pain and sorrow, we get reminded just how blessed and fortunate we were for having Charlie in our lives. He made us all better and for that, my family and I are extremely grateful. Along with my family, I will continue to pray for Charlie, Anne and their families. Please know how sorry we are for your loss and all of you will remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Charlie, you've earned your wings and now it's time to spread them and sore in the heavenly sky's. Thank you for being such a great friend to me and my family. You will be missed and loved by all of us. Until next time my brother. RIP Charlie!

Anne we are so sorry to hear of Charlie’s passing. He was a stellar man with a quick, witty humor. There was always a smile on his face as he watched to see if you “got it”. Praying that God wraps his arms around you and holds you close as you navigate the days ahead. Charlie, thank you for your service.

We were so sorry to hear of Charlie’s passing. I remember every time I would come over, Charlie was always up for conversation and to show me his latest discovery on YouTube. He always managed to keep the dogs from jumping on me as well. Anne, our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with you. Paula and Mike Miroewski

I did not know Charlie well, but I know his life will live on through Anne, his family, and those that knew him best. On the occasions I did run in to him when visiting with Anne, he was thrilled to introduce me to some extreme sport, other unique activity or talk about his dogs. I’m sorry to hear about his passing and praying you find comfort in your memories and in his peace.

Charlie and I were in company A-3 together as plebes as West Point, as well as being on the football team - he a QB and me a running back - so we were around each other a lot.
He was always very funny, fearless (of upperclassmen in A-3 and the first team defense against whom we ran our upcoming opponent's plays in practice), and a great friend.
Funny:
He would sing this at football practice, to the tune of the Mickey Mouse show:
C - H - A, R - L - Y (he took some poetic license with the spelling of his name if I remember correctly)
F - A - U - S - T
Charlie Faust, Charlie Faust.
Great friend:
He made this up to sing to me at football practice, to the tune of the Apple Jacks commercial:
A is for Apfel, B is for Beck
Gray and black clad Apfelbeck
We need a good backfield, that's a fact,
Start it off with Apfelbeck.
Fearless:
There were a number of us plebes standing at attention in the barracks with an upperclassman yelling at us. All of a sudden Charlie...breaks wind. So of course the upperclassman forgets about the rest of us and just yells at Charlie.
I was talking to him later about it and said something about how it was unfortunate for him that that event had occurred. He said, "Are you kidding, it was all I could do to get that out!" So he had done it on purpose just to screw with the upperclassman. This while the rest of us were just trying to shrink into the woodwork and not be noticed.
Attached is his photo from the West Point yearbook, the Howitzer.

So sorry to hear of Charlie's passing but God has him now. I grew up playing sports and generally having a great time laughing at Brentwood Park. When he worked at KFC he would bring us the leftover buckets almost every night. What a fun loving person and always lit up the room. Sadly, we fell out of touch once he went to West Point. I long for those high school days where we would go back to his house and play his "Mott the Hoople" or Harry Belafonte on his record player while singing every word to every song.....
Godspeed Charlie you truly were a blessing....deepest sympathies to his family, friends and all that love him.

Charlie was my roommate Firstie Year, a great friend, and one of the smartest, humorous, and amazing people that I have ever known. I remember him during a spirit rally for Lacrosse jumping over 10+ cadets and landing on the other side in a forward flip. He was of a kind and I will keep he and his family in my prayers

I have some great memories of Charlie. I roomed with Charlie at West Point our senior year. Charlie also was a sabre bearer at my wedding in 1986. Witty, intelligent, great sense of humor and full of life. I lost contact with Charlie after I left the military. In the last letter I received from Charlie he shared that he was becoming a collector of modern art sending a picture of a complete Monopoly board game set he glued to the board, framed and hung on his wall as well as a picture of a shellacked, preserved watermelon he cut in half and displayed proudly . One of a kind and he truly will be missed by all. Rest in peace Charlie Rod Carter

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I worked with Charlie for about a year at Shearers. When he went on leave, his presence was immediately missed. He offered great insight and always had a funny joke. He also shared the photos his dog sitter would send him, on more than one occasion. I will continue to remember him. I wish you peace at this time.-

Our thoughts of Charlie must include his time at the Academy, especially those pranks that so often culminated in his being ordered to "pace the Quad." Our favorite was Charlie's decision that the hall, where the portraits of illustrious, West Point grads were prominently displayed high up around its walls, needed a few "additions," like Donald Duck and Alfred E. Neuman, among others. Charlie took particular delight in the addition of Donald, because he was "Navy"!
Charlie will always be loved for his quick wit, fun-loving nature, intelligence, kindness and compassion. Our lives are far richer for having known him, and this world is far poorer with his loss. May God grant you all the strength you need at this time, and may you find some comfort in the love and warm memories of your many caring friends.
With love and deep sympathy,
Sherry and Bob

So sorry for the of loss of a loved one. Charlie had a long difficult fight and hopefully is finally at peace.
My memory of Charlie always include the dogs, escaping our book club gatherings at Anne and Charlie's home by taking the dogs out, and looking eager to enjoy the activity! I'm sure he will be missed not only by Anne and family but also by Patton!
Sincerest sympathy.

Sharing in your sadness as we remember Charlie. Even though I didn’t know him very well, I enjoyed Anne telling me how strong and confident Charlie always was. One of my favorite stories was that Charlie would take her to see a musical performance that may have been out of her comfort zone and still enjoyed it immensely. We join you in keeping his memory alive. Our deepest sympathies for your loss.
All our love, Oksana & Ron Olinek
