Obituary of Joseph C. McLeland
MUNROE FALLS - Joseph C. McLeland passed away March 9th, 2021, just short of his 94th birthday. He was born March 15th, 1927 in Plainfield, Indiana to Sherman and Ruth [Tobias] McLeland. His family moved to Akron where he graduated from East High School in 1945. Joseph proudly served his country enlisting in the Navy where he was Honorably Discharged in 1946. Joseph married his high school sweetheart, Rita Choate, on November 10th, 1946. Joseph graduated from the University of Akron Law School in 1963 and had a successful law practice until his retirement.
Joseph was a man of Christian faith and loved getting together with other believers discussing scriptural principles. Some of his hobbies included many travels among the United States along with international trips, golfing, and was very skilled at woodworking.
In addition to his parents and sisters June Tritle and Evelyn Kaess, Mr. McLeland was preceded in death by his wife, Rita as well as daughter Cheryll, and son, Timothy. Mr. Mcleland is survived by his immediate family consisting of daughter, Martha [Vincent] Meeker, and granddaughter, Jennifer [Michael] Marburg, and great grandson, William Marburg, along with John Murawski, Cheryll's husband, and Timothy's ex-wife, Lori and their son, Tim. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins along with close friends, Bob and Bonnie Hinchman and Les and Linda Sutherland.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Greenlawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 28th at 2:00 PM at the Eastwood Church of the Brethren, 581 Darrow Road in Akron, officiated by his nephew, Pastor John Ballinger. Calling hours will be from 1:30 PM until time of the service. Masks and social distancing must be adhered to.
