Lela (Stevens) Quatraro

Obituary of Lela Jean (Stevens) Quatraro

STOW - Lela Jean (Stevens) Quatraro, 90, passed away peacefully in the company of family on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. She was born March 9, 1931, in Akron, the daughter of Fred and Fay Stevens of Silver Lake. Lela graduated from Our Lady of the Elms in Akron and attended Ursuline College in Cleveland. She was a founding member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she was a parishioner for 70 years. In her youth, Lela danced under the direction of Norwood Dixon, including a performance at the opening of the Akron Rubber Bowl, as well as other Akron-area events. Before marrying, she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Victor Mungo in Akron. Lela and her husband of 66 years, Roxy, who died in 2018, had many life-long friends whom they enjoyed entertaining and traveling with throughout the country and abroad. Lela was one of the “neighborhood moms” on Oak Road, as she enjoyed making the family home inviting for her children’s friends and classmates. Many people, including those much younger, were drawn to Lela for her no-nonsense advice and mentoring. She volunteered at St. Thomas Hospital in Akron, at Holy Family School and with the Holy Family Funeral Ministry, which provided meals to grieving family members, and others attending the services of a loved one. Lela was an avid golfer for decades, participating in leagues at Sycamore Golf Course, Valleyview Golf Course, and Kent State Golf Course. Survivors include children, Jeff (Christa) of Oregon, James (Ann) of Stow, Paul (Kay) of Arizona, and Angel (Joe Taggart, Sr.) of Kent; grandchildren, Matthew Quatraro, Michelle Quatraro, Allison (Gary) Williams, Joe Quatraro, Nicole Quatraro, Gino Quatraro, Sam Langstaff, Ben Langstaff, Joe Taggart, Jr. and David Taggart; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Parker Williams, Lenna Houston and Juliana Quatraro; sister, Colleen Hoch, and sister-in-law, Natalie Quatraro. Besides her parents and husband, Lela was preceded in death by sister, Peggy (Thomas) Moffitt and in-laws, Frank (Ginny) Quatraro and Anthony Quatraro. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 PM Saturday at Redmon Funeral Home in Stow, where a service will be conducted at 11 AM Sunday. A private interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1815 West Market Street, #108, Akron, OH 44313, or a charity of your choice.
