Obituary of Virginia U. Lawson

STOW - Virginia U. Lawson "Ginny", beloved mother and grandmother, died Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the home of her daughter. Virginia was born February 22, 1930 in Pittsburgh PA., and was named Anna Virginia after her mother, but went by "Ginny". She was the daughter of the late Albert and Anna Karns Utz, who she adored, and was preceded by husband James H. Lawson. Ginny entered school early and graduated from Greensburg High School in 1947. Ginny recorded the highest college entrance exams upon graduation and attended James Madison University and Carnegie Mellon. Ginny was a Science major, a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta and would graduate to become a registered dietitian employed by University Hospitals in Cleveland as Head Dietitian specializing in diabetic care & diet. Ginny was also a consulting dietitian for several nursing homes, did food prep demonstrations for the Equitable Gas Co. and had been a real estate broker for Roger Owen Realty in Stow, Ohio. Ginny was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Stow and enjoyed many clubs throughout her life including the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Animal Protection League, bridge club, and book clubs. Ginny loved to spend time with her family, and their dogs. She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Montgomery (Steven), and grandchildren, Colin and Meredith Montgomery. The family would like to thank the staff at the Briarwood for her years of care with a special thank to Gail Manning for her loyal friendship through the years. Friends will be received at the Barnhart Funeral Home, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 12:00 to 1:00 with graveside service at 1:45. Interment at St. Clair Cemetery in Greensburg, PA. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Stow or the ASPCA.
