Obituary of Teri Renee Heer

Teri R. Heer, 55, died peacefully at home on May 29, 2021. Born in Warren, Ohio and raised in Lordstown, Ohio, Teri received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Geology from Kent State University, and then she worked for Ohio EPA cleaning up hazardous waste sites for 25 years. After meeting her husband, John Heer, she realized her calling was to work more directly with people, and she returned to Kent State to earn her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. As a counselor, Teri worked for several mental health and addiction recovery programs, including Highland Springs in Highland Hills, Signature Health in Maple Heights, Interval Brotherhood Home in Akron, and St. John’s Recovery Center in Akron. Preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Jean Ann Smith, she is survived by her husband of 15 years, John; sons, Tim Phillips (Macie Painter) and Scott Phillips (Emily Currey); stepson, Henry Heer (Abby Sachs); grandsons, Theo and Benjamin Phillips; brother, Jeffrey Smith, and sister, Heather (Brian) Vail. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with funeral service following at 1:00 PM on June 12, 2021 at Rejoice Lutheran Church, 7855 Stow Road in Hudson, Ohio.
