Marilyn Hawks

Obituary of Marilyn Ann Hawks

CUYAHOGA FALLS - Marilyn Ann Hawks went home to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on November 13, 2021. She was the only daughter of Mary Johns Walter and Stanley Roth Walter, born on April 4, 1930, in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. On July 17, 1948, Marilyn married M. Eugene Hawks, Jr., the love of her life. Marilyn and Gene were married for 71 years before he passed away in 2019. Marilyn moved to Akron, Ohio as an 8th grader and it was then that she met Gene, also an 8th grader who had just moved to Akron, from Butler, Pennsylvania. Marilyn was a majorette, Gene an accomplished baseball player. Together, they graduated from Garfield High School; many of their classmates would remain their forever friends, the ladies forming the "Chit Chat Club" who met almost monthly for years. Marilyn was a stay-home mom for all the years her children were in school. She was firm when needed, but always loving. Fond memories were formed from family vacations and the many hours of games around a table. Later, she would take up golf at SLCC, and work at the family appliance business or as a teller at the old First National Bank. Volunteering at The Chapel in Akron, as well as leading studies for Bible Study Fellowship, were her passion. If she could speak today, Marilyn would say "take a serious look at the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ". She strove to model the love of Jesus and speak of His offer of life eternal to whomever she met. Those who live to treasure her memory are daughter, Melanie Kemp (Jack) and son, Rick Hawks (Cathy). Grandchildren include Kristi Wood (Jason), Jonathan Kemp (Danielle), Bethany Chafin (Dan), Rachel Martin (Tom), Adam Hawks (Carly), Becca Graf (Fred), as well as 11 great-grandchildren. The family wish to thank all the wonderful staff at The Village of St. Edwards in Wadsworth, who were so loving and took exceptional care of our mother and grandmother!! Memorials in memory of Marilyn Hawks may be sent to that wonderful facility with the memo "Wadsworth Staff Christmas Bonus Program at St. Edwards", 880 Main Street, Wadsworth, Ohio 44281. A private family funeral has already taken place.
