Bernhardt Schneider

Obituary of Bernhardt M. Schneider

Bernhardt M. Schneider of Stow, Ohio, passed away suddenly, but peacefully on November 28, 2021. He was born in Akron on January 30, 1935, to parents Bernhardt and Juanita Schneider. Bernie was a graduate of West High School and attended The Ohio State University. He dedicated six years of his life to serving in the U.S. Army, where he spent a year stationed in Korea and was recognized with the Soldier of the Year award, an honor his mother was so proud of. He then embarked on a long career with IBM, working as a field engineer for 28 years. He retired in 1993. He had many hobbies, including tinkering with things that were broken, as well as racing his Corvette in his younger years. He was a member of the Throttlers and Tiretown Corvette Club, where many life-long friendships were formed. He was also a history buff and an avid reader, and he loved watching old movies. He was a loyal friend and neighbor, always willing to lend a hand or loan a tool, but you better be sure you returned it! Bernie was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and an amazing grandpa. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, David, he is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Patricia, his children, daughter Valerie (Brian) Moore, sons, Chris Schneider and Jim (Laurel) Laber, his grandchildren, Sarah Schneider, Jack Schneider, Abbey (Kaleb) Austin, Allison Laber, Grace Laber, and his beloved great grandson, Tucker Austin. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his grandkids. They could always count on grandpa for hugs, fun times and sweet treats, most often Oreos. He loved to spoil them and often handed them money on the sly. He was exceptionally proud of them and their accomplishments. Bernie is also survived by his very spoiled dogs, Sammie and Lizzy. He was a champion for animals in need and frequently donated to numerous rescue organizations. He always made sure to feed the wildlife in his backyard, peanuts for the birds and pizza crust for the raccoons. Stubborn yet incredibly sweet, Bernie was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by so many. We know he’ll be watching over us until we meet again. Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home for visitation on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM. For everyone's safety attending, please wear a mask.
