Obituary of Robert J. Lariccia

STOW - Robert (Bob) J. Lariccia, 75, passed away unexpectedly on December 3, 2021. He was preceded in death by his beloved and cherished wife of 49 years, Louise (Lu), in 2018; and, earlier, by his parents, Michael A. and Concetta Lariccia; his sister, June Hughes; and, then in October 2021, by his brother, Michael A. Lariccia, Jr. Bob is survived by his brother, Donald Lariccia of Austintown, his sister, Carol Bracht, (Dennis McDonald), of Maryland; his sister-in-law, Ingeborg (Inge) J. Clare of Boardman, and his brother- and sister-in-law, Joseph and Catherine Wegner of Stockbridge, Georgia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Bob leaves behind many close friends with whom he and Lu shared good food, conversation, and happy times. He will be missed by all. Bob graduated from Youngstown State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts with honors and a major in History. Then, he served in the U.S. Army on bases in Germany. Returning home, he earned a Master of Arts Degree in History from Kent State University. Later, he earned a Doctoral Degree in Education and School Administration. A consummate professional in the field of education for more than 35 years with the Warrensville Heights, Ohio, School District, Bob served as a teacher, school principal, and in numerous district administrator positions, collaborating with the superintendents and boards of education. In retirement, Bob led and served on Credit Union Boards in Ohio. Devoted to their families, Bob and Lu cared for his mother, Concetta, and his mother-in-law, Josephine, for many years of their lives. Although not a gourmet cook himself, Bob enjoyed Lu’s gourmet meals very much. Together, Bob and Lu attended the theater and ballet, and were enthusiastic Cleveland Indians fans. Bob was an avid movie goer, reader of history, and collector of numerous books on history, politics, and culture. Anywhere he traveled, Bob found a bookstore to investigate. The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Hospice of VNS, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, Ohio, in appreciation of their loving, compassionate concern and care for Bob’s wife, Lu. A Celebration of Life will be held at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, Ohio 44224 on Friday, December 17 at 10 AM, where friends may call from 8:30 AM until service time. Burial at Belmont Park Cemetery, 3346 Belmont Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44505 will follow. Out of respect to our families and friends during these Covid times, the family has decided not to gather after the burial.
