Obituary of Paul Nichols, Jr.

STOW - “One of my favorite people in this world went to Heaven today. You were a proud Marine, a boisterous storyteller, headstrong, a hard worker, a great man who loved his family more than anything, and truly the best Grandpa. You always said getting old was hell, but I am grateful you lived 86 great years and for all the lessons you taught me. I’m going to miss you so much.” Paul Nichols, Jr., 86, died peacefully on December 5, 2021, in Stow, after a short illness. He was born in Akron to Dolly (Frances) and Paul Nichols in 1935. Paul graduated from Akron South High School and Wittenberg University, served in the United States Marine Corps, had a decades long career at NRM Corporation in Akron and Tallmadge, then ran two manufacturing companies as Plant Manager in Texas and Canada. He and Bridie raised their family in Cuyahoga Falls where Paul served many years as a Cuyahoga Falls Police Reserve Officer, member of FOPA Lodge #31, American Legion, and Marine Corp League Chesty Puller Detachment #269. Paul was mechanically inclined and always building and fixing things, working in his yard, observing, learning, and livening up a room with his sense of humor, big laugh, and wit. He lived a full, long, and happy life and will be greatly missed. Paul leaves behind, the love of his life, wife of 62 years, Bridie; daughters, Mary Nichols-Rhodes, Cathy (Brian) Sampsel, Barb (Dennis) McClintick; grandchildren, Tony and Collena Rhodes, Brian (Nicole) Sampsel, Brittney (Dave) Dinsmore, Amanda, Mackenzie, and Megan Sampsel; great-grandchildren, Lola, Brian, “Biggie”, and Paislee Sampsel; devoted sister, Emily Murphy, and many nieces and nephews.
