Obituary of James Albert Callahan
STOW - James Albert (Jim) Callahan, 79, of Stow, OH, passed away on February 6, 2022.
A memorial mass will be held at University Parish Newman Center, 1424 Horning Road, Kent, OH 44240, on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 11:00 AM with Reverend Chad Johnson presiding. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM.
Jim was born in Kent to Lawrence (Cal) and Helen Callahan on June 12, 1942. He attended Theodore Roosevelt High School where he met the love of his life, Linda Traycoff. They spent the next 64 years together. He was a graduate of Kent State University and served in the U.S. Army. Jim and Linda were married on June 24, 1967. They raised three sons, Larry, Michael, and Mark. Together they traveled throughout the United States and saw much of the world. Jim owned Callahan's Carpet One which began in 1960 in the University Plaza in Kent, and is currently located in Hudson. During his years in business, Jim was active in Kent and Stow Rotary and served as president of both organizations. He also enjoyed singing in the Rotary Quartet and his church choir. Jim was a hobby woodworker, pilot, and farmer. He donated corn from his farm, and wood toys and kitchen items to local charities. He and Linda also enjoyed volunteering at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and Kent Social Services.
Jim is survived by his wife, Linda of Stow, sons, Larry (Christine) of Hudson, and Mark (Whitney) of Lakewood; and grandchildren, Brendan, Wyatt, Andrew, and Claire. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John (Jack) and Paul (Bud), and beloved son, Michael.
