Obituary of Kyonsuku Cakmak
Kyonsuku ( Toshiko) Min Cakmak passed away on April 16, 2010 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. She was born in Kyoto , Japan on June 3, 1951 to parents Haruki and Fumie Min. She attended Kyoto Institute of Technology for B.S. and M.S. degrees in Polymer/Textile engineering and came to United States in 1979 to attend the graduate program in Polymer Engineering at the University of Tennessee. After receiving her PhD in 1984, she was hired to University of Akron to become one of four founders of the Polymer Engineering Program in 1984.
Her life passion was education of her son and all her students. She was a wonderful and caring mother, wife and teacher. With her compassionate guidance she educated 30 M.S. and Ph.D. students in Polymer Engineering in the past 26 years.
She is survived by her son Emre R. Cakmak, husband Mukerrem Cakmak , father Haruki Min , sisters Junko Ooyama, Yoshiko, Aiko Min ,and brothers Akira and Kozo Min of Japan.
A celebration of Prof. Min’s life will be conducted at the Redmon Funeral Home , Monday April 19 at 1 pm and where friends may call Monday from Noon until service time. Interment Crown Hill Cemetery
