Obituary of John D. Hobensack

SILVER LAKE- John D. Hobensack, MD, died February 12, 2010. Dr. Hobensack was born June 30, 1926 in Akron.  He was a Silver Lake resident for 50 years and a longtime member and past deacon at The Church in Silver Lake.  Dr. Hobensack graduated from Kent State University at the age of 17 with a degree in chemistry.  Following completion of his undergraduate studies, Dr. Hobensack honorably served 2 years in the US Army receiving two bronze stars while serving in the Asiatic-Pacific theater during World War II.  Following his service, he enrolled in medical school at what is now Case-Western Reserve University, graduating in 1951.  After completing his internship in Akron he finished his residency in pediatrics at the University of Colorado at Denver.  Dr. Hobensack was a pediatrician in Akron until his retirement in 2003.  He was a member of both the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.   He was also an active charter member of the Goodyear Heights Lions Club and a 60-year member of Scottish Rite.  In his free time he enjoyed humorous storytelling, crossword puzzles, gardening and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren.  Dr. Hobensack was a man who truly loved life and the people who shared it with him. He will be greatly missed.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Glennie; daughter Beth Hobensack of Dallas, TX; sons John (Jill) of Cuyahoga Falls  and Bill (Jennifer) of Jacksonville, FL; grandsons Ethan, Luke and Jacob Hobensack, and special brother-and sister-in-law, John and Dory Ferensic. Friends may call Friday 4 to 8 PM at Redmon Funeral Home.  Rev. Dianne Shirey will conduct service Saturday 1 PM at The Church in Silver Lake, 2951 Kent Road, Silver Lake, OH  44224.  Private burial Greenlawn Cemetery.  Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Church in Silver Lake.  Dr. Hobensack’s video tribute may be seen here.
