Obituary of Elma Beatrice Roush

Elma Beatrice Roush, 91, went home to be with her Lord on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2010. Born in Akron, Ohio, she was a lifetime member of St. John/St. Paul Lutheran Church where she served so faithfully in many ministries. Sunday dinners were enjoyed at the Country Diner. She was active in Firestone Park Prime Timers, A.A.R.P, and was a fifty year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was formerly employed at Federman’s Dept Store and retired from First Federal Savings & Loan after twenty plus years.    As an avid traveler she and her husband visited all 50 of the United States. She loved cruising with Jane, Lyle and Bob along with faithfully attending the yearly “Roush Reunion”.  She vacationed at her beloved Lakeside, A Vacation With A Purpose, since age ten. She loved music especially the Barbershop Quartets, Band performances and Christy Lane’s Hymns.    She loved her family and friends unconditionally and cherished her independence as well…driving her Taurus and living on her own until 91!  Elma’s specialties included serving pickled eggs, Swiss steak or chicken with noodles for family gatherings. Elma’s life was devoted to serving others, visiting and delivering altar flowers along with the church bulletins to shut-ins or driving and eating with her elderly friends at Bob Evans.   She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle D. in 1980, and special friend, Bob Dieringer in 2005. She is survived by her children Kenneth (Penny) Roush; MaryAnn (Bill) Rockwood; eight grandchildren Mary (Paul) Hrubik, Kimberly (Virgil) Thompson, Kenneth (Andrea) Roush, Michael (Teresa) Roush, Joe Roush, Jim (Amy) Rockwood, Jane Rockwood (fiancé Hubert Tougouma) and Jeff Rockwood; ten great-grandchildren  Felicia and Sara Roush, Jacob, Lucas, and Jordan Thompson, Caroline, Hannah, and Clara Roush and Kristen and Abigail Rockwood and  great-great-grandson, Dylan White. A special thanks and acknowledgement to her devoted family members who lovingly sacrificed of their time providing around the clock care and support these last four months while under Hospice Care including friends, Kathy King and Jeff Eisele. Thank you to all the VNS nurses and caregivers.   Pastor Larry Shaw will conduct the service Wednesday 1:30 PM at Redmon Funeral Home, where friends may call from 12:30 until service time.  Burial Greenlawn Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation, 236 Walnut Ave., Lakeside, OH  43440 in memory of Elma Roush.
