Dean D. Burgan
Dean D. Burgan passed away Feb. 1, 2010 at age 88 after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was a life member of American Society for Metals, a Navy WWII veteran (USS Bataan, CVL-29), an Amateur Radio Operator, N8LCC, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Dean was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio Sept. 18, 1921. A graduate of Akron North High School, he attended The University of Akron and after serving in the Navy during WWII graduated from The Ohio State University. Dean’s career as a Metallurgical Engineer took him from Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio to Electric Steel Foundry Company (ESCO) in Portland, Oregon (16 years), and finally to General Metals Powder Company (GEMPCO) in Akron, Ohio where he retired in 1987. Dean is survived by Carol, his wife of 66 years, brother Bruce (Ruth), sons Richard (Yoshiko) and Stephen (Becky), daughter Cathleen Beacom (Ed), and grandchildren Cody, Alexander, Casey, and Elizabeth. Following cremation a private memorial will be held. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Memorials to the alzheimers association (alz.org or 1815 W.
