Julia was a graduate of the Metropolitan Hospital School of Nursing in New York City and was in the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II.  She worked as a registered nurse in New York and Michigan prior to moving to Ohio  in 1953 where she worked at Akron City and St. Thomas Hospitals , ending her career with the Portage County Visiting Nurse Service. She is survived by her husband of 61 years Robert E.; daughters Julie Bingham, Kathryn (Dennis) Beahn, Joyce (Dr. Miles, deceased) Oden; sons Allen (Diana Rigg) Bingham and  Edward (Heather Dunn) Bingham ;  7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters Alice Osterman and Gloria Kennedy.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Arthur and sister Barbara. Julia was a giving person not only to her family but to her patients, friends, and even strangers. Her children benefited from her giving nature and her dedication to provide each and every one of them the opportunity to grow and explore all of their potential. She taught her children by example how to treat others, what good manners were, she set a bar for them that was often hard to match, but was greatly appreciated as they each met their own challenges in life.   She embraced life and lived it to the fullest. She loved the performing and visual arts and shared that love with her family.  In her middle age she learned to ski and in turn taught her husband and children the thrill of the slopes. She loved to travel.  She took us camping and fishing.  She organized yearly trips to the Cleveland Zoo, and the Natural History and Art Museums.  She will be missed by all who knew her. Per her request, services and burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive , Ashland , OH 44805 or your favorite charity.
