Obituary of David Lee Grosse

David Lee “Coach” Grosse 78, of Stow died July 30, 2016. Born in Canton, OH to the late Harry and Mary Grosse, he was a Stow resident since 1971 and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Dave retired as the Athletic Director for the Kent City School District. He began his head football coaching career at Akron Springfield in 1969 where he won two Metro League championships in 1969 and 1970 (with a 17-3 record), before taking over as the head football coach at Kent Roosevelt in 1971. He compiled a 24-23-3 record in five years at Roosevelt, including a Metro League championship in 1972. He was a mentor and friend to many throughout his 32 year teaching and coaching career. Dave is survived by daughter Sharon Johnson and fiancé Tom Kincaid of Stow; sons Jeffrey (Linda) Grosse of Brunswick, OH, Stephen (Mary) Grossi of Tulsa, OK and Michael Grossi (Jennifer Bourgeois) of Stow; 9 grandchildren: Troy Johnson, Lindsey and Hannah Grosse, Meredith and Matthew Grossi, Blake, Grant, Lexi and Anna Grossi and sister Joann Diana of Valrico, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara (2014) of 55 years and granddaughter Brynne Grossi. The family would like to thank Kim Piltz from Crossroads Hospice for her compassion and dedicated care. Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Friday from 4 to 8 PM. Mass of the Christian Burial Saturday 10 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church. Private burial at Stow Cemetery.
