Obituary of Karen Buschko Powers

Karen Buschko Powers joined her mother, heaven’s sweetest angel, on February 16, 2017, after a sudden illness. She was born on June 11, 1959, in Akron, Ohio, to Patricia Ann and Stephen Paul Buschko. After her mother’s passing, she became the glue that held her family together. Those who know her best, know she’s traveling the universe with her mother, dancing a polka with her father, and having a drink with all those who passed before her. Karen married her best friend, David A. Powers, on August 20, 1983. From traveling Europe together, to their weekly date nights with friends, to parenting three beautiful boys, their life together was the definition of true love. Her favorite role was being a wife and mother. With sarcasm as her language of choice, her greatest gift was the advice she shared with all. There is a special place in heaven for a mother of three boys, a sister of several, and a friend to all. She not only nurtured and cared for her boys, she was their loudest cheerleader. She would do anything for her babies. Karen was the perfect example of “a promise made, a promise kept.” She was loyal, kind-hearted, strong-willed, and dedicated. Karen was a member of the first freshman co-ed class to graduate from Archbishop Hoban High School. Following high school, she focused on her career as a legal assistant, most recently with Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP. Karen showed her dedication to education by serving on the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District Board of Education for 8 years, including 2 years as President. She served not only to watch over her boys, but to represent all children of Stow and Munroe Falls. Karen loved to travel and in the past year, she was fortunate to receive two trips of a lifetime. First traveling through Europe with her husband, Dave, where they visited Paris and saw the Italian countryside together and visited the Vatican, where they saw the Pope. Then just recently, she traveled to Hawaii with her sister, Jane. Preceded in death by her parents, Patricia Ann Buschko and Stephen P. Buschko. We have peace in knowing they are together again watching over us all. Karen leaves behind her devoted and loving husband of 33 years, David Powers; her children Zachary Powers, Nathaniel Powers and Ryan Powers; her siblings Jane Manning, Stephen (Catherine) Buschko, Thomas (Patricia) Buschko and Carol (Donald) Sweitzer; her nieces and nephews David (Stephanie) Buschko, Stephanie (Brian) Shoman, Kelly (Jeff) Musick, Michelle (Matthew) Dangerfield, Marcie (Aaron) James, Megan Buschko, Corey and Tyler Sweitzer, and great nieces and nephews Cadence, Cora, Logan, Leah, Cooper, Tucker, Audrey, Owen and Nicholas, as well as her many, many friends. The last thing she would want is for us to mourn her passing. She would want a celebration of her life. So we ask you to join us to do just that - celebrate all the amazing memories we have of Karen. Family and friends will be received Wednesday, February 22, from 3 to 7 PM at Redmon Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church in Stow, on Thursday February 23, at 10 AM. Burial Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District PTA or Boy Scout Troop 273.
