Obituary of Ray E. Benson, Jr.
TALLMADGE – Ray E. Benson, Jr., 84 went home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2017.
Ray was born in Clarksburg, WV to Ray E. Benson, Sr. and Mary Louise Benson. He was a resident of Tallmadge since 1966, a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a medic, and a member of The Chapel since 1972, where he was active in the Prime Time ABF. Ray graduated from East High School in 1951, attended Westminster College, and was a graduate of the University of Akron. He also completed training as a CMR (Certified Medical Representative). Ray served on the board of Chapel Hill Christian School, where he was also Business Manager for ten years. He was a founding board member of CVCA. Ray loved his Lord and spent many years dedicated to Christian education so other children and their families would come to know Christ. In 1995, Ray retired from Glaxo Wellcome after a longtime career in pharmaceutical sales. Ray enjoyed camping, traveling, and being a father and grandfather.
Ray was the loving and devoted husband of his wife of 58 years, Jean. He is also survived by his daughter Brenda (David) Harstine; sons Ray E. III (Sheila), Dave (Dee); grandchildren Joshua and Jonathan Harstine; Kayleigh, Annalisa, and Ray E. Benson IV; Bethany and Tiffany Benson; brothers William (Wilma); Charles (Beverly); sister-in-law Sue(Bruce)Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Altercare Post-Acute Rehab Center of Brimfield and Harbor Light Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of Ray.
Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Friday, June 16, 2017 from 7 to 9 PM. Pastors Lynn Warner and Isaac VanEpps will conduct the service on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11 AM in The Auditorium at The Chapel, 135 Fir Hill, Akron 44304, where calling hours will also take place from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service. Burial Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Carl, 8054 Calvin Road, Ravenna 44266 or Chapel Hill Christian School, 1639 Killian Road, Akron 44312.
