Obituary of Catherine "Cathy" Kubiak
Cathy Kubiak, 75, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on April 7, 2018.
She was born September 17, 1942 in Athens, Greece. As a war orphan, she was adopted and brought to Akron, OH at the age of 12 by Socrates and Bessie Sovitgis, and graduated in 1962 from Buchtel High School. She married Michael Kubiak on September 18, 1972 in Akron and, once her children were raised and in school, worked as an electronic technician for Rockwell Automation, retiring in 2004 after 18 years. Shortly after retiring, she traveled back to her birthplace in Greece to visit her sisters and their families. A member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Akron, OH, Cathy was very active in her Greek Orthodox faith. She was a member of the Hellenic Women's Group, the Philoptochos Committee and volunteered frequently there. Cathy enjoyed life and was an amazing cook and baker for her family and friends. She will be fondly remembered for always welcoming you into her home and never letting you leave hungry.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Michael; two sisters still living in Greece; children Michael A. Kubiak, Christina Gabele (Justin Eastwood), Michael C. Kubiak III, Kelly Lewis, and nine beautiful grandchildren (Ryan, Adam, Mackenzie, Delaney, Michael IV, Cody, Taylor, Courtney and Mitchell).
