Dad, this is the first time I've had the courage to come back to this memory page. I miss you so much. I hope I made you proud.

Dad, I never did understand why you felt so compelled to come and help me in the yard all those years, but I am glad you did. We had a good time and it was there that I got to know you best. You were my best friend. I see you out there still, pulling weeds around the spruce, weed-eating, cutting down dead trees, and finishing off the day with a beer on the front porch. With great love and admiration, your first son.

I am unable to attend the service, but realize it's happening right now, and so I just read the obituary and watched the video in memory of David Morrison Hawley. It's beautiful, but it got the tears flowing -- thanks for the waterworks! I loved the glimpse into Uncle Dave's life -- some parts with which I was familiar but most not so much. I enjoyed the wedding photo and imagining my dad as the one who wrote "just hooked" on their car! I recognized a couple of your homes as well as one place in Ft. Myers Beach. I chuckled at your family photos -- you Hawley kids were dressed similarly (and just as awfully) as we Rolph kids in the 60s, 70s, and 80s! I cherish the photos of Julia as she changed but yet remained the same throughout the years, in both her sweet face and her position -- at David's side. I recognized several of Uncle Dave's facial expressions, many of which are mirrored in your faces, Steve, Dan, and Jill. What a lovely tribute to a wonderful man. Thank you for sharing.
